Check delivered heat at cold temperatures
A low operating-temperature claim means the unit can operate at that temperature. It does not establish that the unit can heat your whole house without another heat source. Ask for the proposed model’s heating capacity at the design conditions.
Understand the backup plan
A dual fuel installation can use the gas furnace when the controls call for it. An all-electric installation may use electric backup heat. The selected equipment and electrical supply need to support the plan.
Expect defrost operation
Frost can collect on the outdoor coil during heating, and the system periodically clears it through a defrost cycle. Keep the unit accessible. Follow the manufacturer’s clearance guidance.
